Introducing the new mentor cohort of January 2024

On the 11th of January, we welcomed the latest additions to the mentoring team for a morning of training.

Training is live and in person and centres on role playing mentoring sessions between adults and children. Training takes the key principles Oppidan holds central to the development of young people, underpins that with research by the Oxford Character Project and combines it with the experience and background of the mentor to create what we hope to be the perfect delivery of a one-to-one session.

From cognitive dissonance to giving children autonomy, the art of giving feedback to the importance of set pieces, Bloom’s taxonomy to scaffolding, praise and communicating effectively with parents, the training follows a set of online modules which mentors complete too as part of their onboarding.

Our new mentor team combines experienced senior leaders in schools, coaches, students as well as finance professionals, civil servants and PHD students.
