St Paul’s Girls’ Admissions Process

When is the deadline for registration at 11+?

The deadline for Registration to SPGS is at the end of November in Year 6. Families should submit the completed registration forms, a copy of the candidate's passport, and the registration fee of £250 (not applicable for those applying for a bursary only place).

What is the assessment process at 11+?

In the middle of November, all candidates complete an on-screen time-limited cognitive ability test covering verbal ability, mathematics ability, and non-verbal ability. This test is an hour long and is taken on-site at the school.

Parents are informed of the outcome in mid-December. A confidential report from the student's current school are requested at this time.

In January, successful candidates from the cognitive ability test are invited to sit entrance examinations in English, mathematics, and comprehension at the school.

In late January, students who pass the entrance examinations are invited back for an interview. These last about 15-20 minutes and focus on the student's academic potential.

The final decision on places is sent out to parents in February.

Acceptances to offers of a place need to be with the school by early March, along with a deposit of 50% of the term's fees. Reduced deposits apply for successful bursary candidates. An additional overseas deposit is required if one or more of the fee-paying individuals is resident outside the United Kingdom.

Early in the summer term, a pack of information is sent out. Invitations to various summer term events, including the new students' tea in June, are included.

What is the admissions process for 16+?

The deadline for registration is by the middle of October in Year 11. Families submit the completed registration forms, a copy of the candidate's passport, her personal statement, and the registration fee of £250.

What is the assessment process for 16+?

All students go to St. Paul's to sit entrance examinations in the subjects they wish to study. Examinations take place in the morning only. Students must select their four preferred A-level subjects for which they will sit entrance papers, along with a fifth nominated subject. Students may be asked to sit an additional entrance paper in the nominated subject on the interview day.

You can find out more information about these exams here.

Following success in the entrance examinations, students are invited back to the school for interviews and a group activity.

These group days assess subject academic performance, wider interests, and group participation. Students may be asked to sit an additional entrance paper in their fifth nominated subject.

When are decisions made on entry?

Final decisions are sent out to parents in early December.  The offer may include the fifth nominated subject (where an additional entrance paper was sat) as one of the student's four A-levels. The subject combinations included in the offer are confirmed in the summer term and may be subject to change, depending on the timetable. Such changes are rare, and efforts will be made to accommodate a student's preferred subject choices.

Acceptances to offers of a place must be submitted by mid-December, along with a deposit of 50% of the term's fees. Reduced deposits apply for successful bursary candidates. An additional overseas deposit is required if one or more of the fee-paying individuals is resident outside the United Kingdom.

In the spring term, a pack of information is sent out and invitations to various summer term events are included. After students have finished their GCSEs, they are invited to an induction day to meet staff and the current year group.
