Oppidan in Spain

After a brilliant launch with one of the Affinitas schools, Xabia International College, in 2024 we expanded our partnership to four schools within the group in Spain.

The southern Spain mentor led by Henry Grace, Zak Eastop and Alessandra McAllister travelled to Colegio Internacional Torrequebrada and Colegio Base International School.

The eastern Spain mentor team led by Camilla Dunhill, Poppy Webster and James Jowett visited Colegio Interacional Ausias March and Xabia International College.

In both schools, mentors were training students to be leaders within their own community following the peer mentor training journey which has become very popular in the U.K and beyond.

The Mentor Training Journey trains older students to be mentors to younger students within their school before reflecting (in a 1:1 context) on their experience as mentors.

Fast-paced and full of activities and big discussions, students were trained to be mentors in their schools through three modules:

  1. Introduction to Mentoring

  2. What Makes a Good Mentor?

  3. Hit the Ground Running

Each session was roughly 60 minutes long, with one Oppidan mentor for every group of 8-10 students.

Having first met some of these students last year, we were delighted to return to so many smiling faces and continue developing the essential skills work we started in 2023.

Alongside the mentor training, students will receive direct support themselves from our mentor team helping them prepare for their next steps allowing them to fulfil their academic potential and thrive in and out of school.
