Personal Development in Primary Schools

First impressions are hard. Adults get them wrong the whole time, so how do kids even stand a chance?

Eye contact, body language, asking the right questions, staying relaxed, the list goes on. It's seemingly impossible to nail a good first impression. At Oppidan we respectfully disagree.

We’ve spent 6 years working with over 10,000 kids and we’ve got pretty good at understanding the magic ingredients to a first impression. A few weeks ago, we went down to St Peter’s C.E Primary School in Ravenscourt Park to share our ideas.

As our starting point we used β€˜Ed’s Interview Masterclass’, a hilarious video course filmed by one our leading mentors and musical comedian Ed MacArthur. With the kids in fits of giggles and doing impressions of the various characters like β€˜Peter Perfect’ or β€˜Superman’ we then delved deeper into how to build a strong connection with a new person with scenario work and team exercises.

It was a great afternoon, with a focus central to everything we do at Oppidan: giving young people the skills and ownership they need to take charge of their future.

It’s not just podcast-listening adults who want personal development, it’s kids too. Watch out world.
